The acanthus ring is a free interpretation of the Greek column ornament. The ring is designed like a three-dimensional portable sculpture. It has no special view perspective and can be viewed from all sides. The thistle-like acanthus leaf is a recurring motif in ornamentation. It is one of the oldest ornaments in Western art history. The representations are mostly free artistic inventions, since the natural acanthus does not drive tendrils.
